Summertime and the living is easy… I heart the summer and everything about it! Today I’m sharing a few of my favorite summer items that I never leave the house without (especially when I’m heading to the beach.)
Protect Your Face
Just like my veggies, I make sure that whatever I put in or on my body is organic and without toxins. I have tried many different organic sunscreens over the years, and my favorite brand is Badger. The zinc oxide is a natural sun protector. Just know that it has a white coating so you’ll need to rub it in a lot more than other sunscreen, but it is the best organic and chemical free sunscreen out there. Badger is also safe for kiddos, so you don’t need to pack more than one brand in your purse.
I highly encourage you to stay away from sunscreens that have chemicals in them, our skin is the largest organ and whatever you put on your skin will seep inside. For years I used the aerosol sunscreen sprays, and it wasn’t until I started researching toxins that I realized the sunscreen I was using had tons of chemicals in it and was probably one of the many reasons I wasn’t feeling as healthy as I desired.
Even though I love my Vitamin D and the sun is the best way to get plenty of it, we can actually burn faster than we realize. I burn in less than five minutes, so I always make sure that I wear a hat and that my back is covered and I try to get my legs in the sunshine more than my arms.
I’ve been buying my Badger sunscreen on Thrive Market as it is the least expensive way to get this product. Thrive Market is like Whole Foods meets Costco online and you can save tons on all of your health and wellness products. It’s my new obsession!
Up Your Water Intake
When it’s hot outside it becomes even more important to drink tons of water to hydrate our body. Often times hunger cravings and headaches are just the result of being dehydrated, even more in the summer. I encourage you to swap out all plastic water bottles for glass water bottles, as plastic contains BPA (Bisphenol A) which can disrupt our hormones. It is especially important to never leave a plastic water bottle in a hot car and then drink from it. The BPA seeps into the water and causes a lot of hormonal imbalance in our body.
My favorite water bottle is my lifefactory water bottle. It’s a glass water bottle with a rubber covering that really protects it when it falls. Why I love this company so much is that if the bottle breaks you can get a replacement for free, you just need to pay for shipment. To help hydrate you more this summer you can add in fresh berries, lemon, lime or grapefruit. I find this super helpful when I am craving something sweet.
Healthy Cookout Recipes
Every summer I can’t wait for the 4th of July. It is such a fun holiday filled with great food, warm weather and colorful fireworks. We understand how it goes with food temptation everywhere, it’s so easy to graze all day so here are some healthy eats for any cookout to help you feel healthy and happy all day long.
A Good Book
The summer is the best time to relax! I encourage you to turn off your cell phone and take a day to lounge. Bring all of your magazines and a book with you to the beach or to the pool to just get away from everything on your to-do list. Trust me it can wait, you need the peace and quiet more!
Enjoy your long weekend!
