How To Read Food Labels

Are you one of the many women who love grocery shopping, or do you dread the weekly trip to the store? I fall somewhere in the middle of hating and loving it!

I love getting fresh vegges so I can make my healthy meals but after living in NYC for almost 10 years I really hated grocery shopping. The Trader Joes near my apartment had crazy long lines and it sometimes took me up to an hour to shop while I was waiting in line!

The Whole Foods was also a mad house if you didn’t go at the right time. Living in California it is easier to shop, I no longer have to carry what I purchase and as long as I avoid Sunday grocery shopping I don’t hate food shopping… well not all the time!

I want to help you eat healthy and fill your house up with fresh foods so here are a few tips to help prepare you before your next grocery shopping experience!

  • Always go with a list, know what you need so you don’t fill your cart up with unnecessary items that you end up throwing away
  • Try to plan meals ahead so you don’t have to make another trip back for that one item you missed
  • Early mornings are the best time to shop, weekends are usually busiest and Tuesdays and Wednesdays tend to be the slowest
  • Find what works for you! Shop with your partner or roommate or go alone
  • Shop the perimeter of the store and stock up with fruits, veggies, nuts and then venture to the aisles for whatever else you might need
  • Read Labels! Understand what you are putting into your body. Watch my healthy tip of the week video to learn what to look for when you shopping so you can stay healthy
