When I was 28 years old I found myself in a doctor’s office crying because I was so sick of being sick! I had developed a chronic sinus infection for an entire year and I just couldn’t take it any more.
This was my “a-ha” moment with my health. It was the first time a doctor sat with me and asked me about my life, what was working, what wasn’t. That day I left with a “prescription” for a neti-pot, probiotics, meditation and yoga. It was the first time a doctor didn’t prescribe a medication to me.
This was the first day of my new healthy life. It took me many years to feel as healthy as I do today, but over the years I have created a wellness plan for my life.
I started by asking myself how I wanted to feel every single day. I decided that my main health goals were to feel energetic, balanced and nourished every single day.
Over the years I have pursued many different paths to discover what supported my body the best so that I could feel good every single day. Today I am sharing with you what a wellness plan looks like, how easy it is to create, and the many amazing people who have supported me on my own health and wellness journey.
How To Create A Wellness Plan; Step-By-Step Guidelines
Write It Down
- Take out a journal and start asking yourself some very important questions about the way you would like to feel. How are you feeling right now on a daily basis? How would you like to feel every single day? What might be getting in the way of you feeling this way? Who in your life will be supportive of your health?
Self Assessment
- Once you know how you would like to feel, ask yourself what areas of your life you need support in. Do you need help with nutrition and wellness? Do you need support with movement? Do you need support with chronic pain or allergies? Really think about what your support system looks like, not who but what.
The Smallest Step
- Creating a healthy lifestyle doesn’t need to feel overwhelming. Instead think of the next smallest step you can take towards your health. If you would like to add more movement into your life, maybe you start by putting on your sneakers and going for a five minute walk around your block. A small step isn’t going to the gym and working out for an hour! Make it easy so that it feels really good in your body.
Get Support
- Hire a Nutrition and Wellness coach to help support and guide you from where you are right now with your health, to where you would like to be. Most doctors only have seven minutes to spend with each patient and have very little nutritional education, so find someone who can give you their devoted attention to help support you. Getting support will help you reach your health intentions sooner and with ease. They will also be able to recommend an acupuncturist, a chiropractor, and a yoga teacher who can help support you and your health.
Self Care
- When you make you and your health a priority, big healthy shifts start to happen. Be sure to add in more self care time. Take time every single day, even if its only five minutes, for you. Add in massages, go for walks. Do whatever feels really good in your body!
Invest In Your Health
- We have insurance for our cars, we have retirement plans and we have health insurance that helps us when we are sick. We sometimes forget that our health is also an investment so that we don’t have to rely on medications. By investing in your health today you will prevent disease and sickness and live a healthier life. You will save money and time in the long run by taking care of you today.
- Get more greens, veggies and fruits and add some high quality supplements into your diet to help support your wellness journey.
To be honest, it took me years to figure out the best way to take care of myself and my health and I can honestly say that I have never felt as good as I do today. I have had many people support me on my journey both on the west coast and back east that keep me healthy. Here are my Health Partners who can also support you on your health and wellness journey.
