No Hurries, No Worries – Energize Your Life
Two weeks ago I was absolutely exhausted. My brain hurt. Have you ever experienced that feeling where you couldn’t think of anything else and when you did your brain actually felt overloaded? I know that I am a recovering perfectionist with a true desire to succeed. I love owning my own business, I can make my own hours and pick and choose what is best for me. But being my own boss is also difficult because I am always so much harder on myself than we are on anyone else.
One of my dear friends always says to me when I am having one of those days that my biggest strength is my motivation and determination but it is also my biggest downfall to myself. Learning how to move forward while taking care of me at the same time is something that I work on every single day.
One of my favorite yoga instructors in the South Bay is Julie Rader. In class last week she spoke about her recent vacation to Hawaii and how her and her husband’s mantra was No Hurries, No Worries during their entire trip. When they returned from paradise they tried really hard to incorporate this into their every day life. She made a hard decision to stop teaching at night so she could be home with her family. No worries if you love her classes she still teaches during the day!
Her realization got me thinking about my life and what was really important and how that I didn’t need to be so hard on myself and actually cutting back on some things could actually benefit me. This week I feel so much better after taking some time to shift my focus and take my own advice… take time for you every single day.
Here are a few quick things I did to recharge my energy… that really worked!
I Threw Away My To-Do List
I LOVE my to-do lists. I have post it notes every where, I write emails to myself reminding me to do things. I have a today To-DO List and an week/month list. It’s a little excessive but I never forget to do anything! My mom writes lists so I think I first learned it from her at an early age because I have always loved to write lists! But all of these lists can literally drive you a little crazy. So I did something drastic.. I threw away my to-do list… oh my god did it feel liberating! and guess what I still remembered all of the things that I really wanted to do. The other things that had been on my list for so long really didn’t need to get done or it would have already.
Only Do My Job
I love my life, I really do but some times everything that I enjoy doing normally doesn’t feel that exciting. On some days I am teaching yoga, I am health coaching at Mattel, I coach my clients and then work at a yoga studio. I love it all but my brain needs to shift gears from one way of thinking to another and this can be exhausting. This week I promised myself to not work on any new projects/tasks and just focus on each “job” that I was doing. It actually cleared up some space in my life and allowed me more time to write blogs, be creative and focus on what I really want.
Acknowledge
I love supporting the women I work with. I am always so amazed and honored to be the one watching them create healthy lifestyle changes. I often forget to acknowledge me and everything that I have done since I started my business. I am grateful for this amazing life and sometimes forget that I am the one creating it. I now that I said no more lists but writing in my gratitude journal every night before bed has really helped shift focus and recharged my energy levels.
