One of my favorite quotes that I have on a heart shaped post it note on my dresser is “comparison is the thief of joy.” Comparing ourselves to others has become a very subconscious act which is creating some very unhealthy relationships with our health and our body.
We are constantly being sent messages from the media to be more than what we already are. Each month is a new way to exercise, a new way to lose weight and new way to have the best sex of your life. I read an article the other day that said only 5% of the population looks like the models compared to 30 years ago where 30% of the population looked like the models. Right now that is leaving 95% of the population constantly in comparison mode.
This month I noticed that the cover of Self Magazine didn’t have any of the “lose weight now” language. I was very impressed with the cover and shared it with all of you online. One reader on Facebook mentioned that it was a step in the right direction but Olivia Munn still looked like she was photoshopped.
In my personalized health coaching sessions I show women how to create new thoughts about ourselves from the inside out to help us stay present so that we can actually nourish our bodies instead of restrict and deprive ourselves.
Big Hugs & Health,
Katie
