Why Diets Just Don’t Work

When you are on a diet…

– Those bright shiny wrappers in the candy dish will get you every single time you walk by your co-workers desk. At first you grab one, but by the end of the day you are taking a handful of candy back to your desk. We have all been there, especially on a Monday afternoon…

– You get really upset that you ate pizza and drank wine all weekend (again) and every Monday you declare, “this is the week I will start eating better.”

– You count calories and when you are not losing “enough” weight you eat less and exercise more.

– You believe, “if I just had more willpower,” then you’d be able to feel better in your body.

The truth is, diets don’t work! Counting calories, eating less, exercising more, and denying yourself isn’t the way to lose and keep off the weight.Even if weight loss isn’t your goal, some eating and exercise habits that have been ingrained in us over the years from the media, false sciences and the like may not be serving you anymore.

You may be eating low calorie yogurts (avoiding all foods that contain fat), skipping meals – usually breakfast or needing a 3 p.m. energy drink. We all hope that these small actions will help us feel better, and they might in the moment, but by the end of the day we are simply exhausted and sit on our couch for hours watching Netflix.

With the holidays quickly approaching the fear of gaining weight becomes more real. This is when most women start a “diet,” or the second or third one this year AND because diets don’t work, we end up restricting ourselves instead of enjoying the holidays.
