Do you ever try to fall asleep, but you can’t because your mind is racing? You are thinking about what you need to do tomorrow, you are wondering if you should have waited to send that email to your boss, and you can’t believe your sink is full of dishes… again!
For most of my life I had such a hard time falling asleep. I always had a million things on my mind and I didn’t know how to slow my thoughts down. Even if I got a solid night’s sleep, I still woke up feeling exhausted.
A good night’s sleep keeps our mood balanced and keeps the weight off. Plus sleep helps us keep our stress levels low so we can maintain hormonal balance. New research suggests that it might not be the length of time we are sleeping, but the the time we are and encourages us to be in bed by 10 p.m.
If you are staying up late, reading emails or binge watching Netflix, the cortisol in your body will start to rise. We start feeling wired but tired… so even though we are physically exhausted if our brain is stimulated it makes it even more difficult to fall asleep at night.
To help you feel less foggy when you wake up, reduce your intense sugar cravings and moodiness try adding this yoga pose into your evening routine. I suggest getting into your bedroom ten minutes earlier, with all electronics out of the room, and try this pose.
It is seriously a sleep miracle! Try it before you go to sleep, and if you wake up in the middle of the night just put your legs up the wall!
How To Do Legs Up The Wall Yoga Pose
Wiggle your bum to the edge of the wall
Kick your legs up the wall and rest your back on the floor. For more comfort you can lay on a blanket or on a yoga mat. I even lay on my bed and bring my legs up the headboard
Lay here with one hand on your heart and one hand on your belly and take five deep breathes through your nose and exhale five long breathes out of your mouth.
Stay here for at least five minutes. If you have had one of those days, stay here longer!
Try this yoga pose tonight before bed and share with me in the comments below how adding this into your nightly routine has helped you have a better night’s sleep!
I’m definitely going to try this starting tonight, I have also been doing the magnesium which is helping. I’m really glad I found you and I have been referring my daughters and friends to your Facebook page.
Thank you for all you share!
Erika 🙂
