3 Easy Ways To Reduce Stress At Work
Eat Brain Food
Throughout the day, the brain is being used to solve problems, complete tasks, and interact with others. Why not fuel the brain with the right foods? Incorporate at least six tablespoons of healthy fats into the diet throughout the day. This can include avocados, olives, salmon, walnuts, and coconut oil. One of the easiest things to have on hand at work is trail mix. At some of my corporate wellness events we set up a trail mix bar for employees so they can make a batch to bring back to their desk so they always have healthy snacks on hand.
Incorporate Movement
Most modern jobs require a great deal of sitting, which can be detrimental in the quest for optimal health. Employees should try going on a walk break in the middle of the workday, take the stairs rather than the elevator, take a stroll while making phone calls, and ultimately aim for 10k steps per day. They can also bring workout clothes to work and head straight to the gym after the workday is complete. I also love showing employees how to stretch at their desk. There are so many simple yet effective ways to stretch throughout the day to help employees decrease body pain. I also demonstrate various deep breathing techniques to help them reduce the feeling of overwhelm. This can be effective in not only reducing stress but eliminating body pain. We all feel better when we move more!
Time Management
With technology at our fingertips, it can be easy to get caught up in the demands of technology in the workplace. This can be a detriment to our stress levels. Employees should try delegating certain times for answering emails; perhaps at 11am and 4pm daily, which many studies show are the most effective times for getting solid answers to emails. They can also use airplane mode to their advantage and have designated technology-free hours in the day. The goal is creating more focus when you are working on projects and not letting all of the emails interfere with getting your number one priority of the day completed.
These skills are vital to teach those working in the corporate world. As an employer, it is beneficial for your employees’ well-being and your company’s bottom-line to provide easily accessible stress-relief information.
